Dog and cat breeders are notorious for their mistreatment and abuse of their animals. The animals that are being bred are kept in tight cages for their entire lives and are often forced to sleep and sit in their own waste.
When these animals are no longer able to breed, they are killed by the owners and the cycle is continued with another dog or cat. The litters of these animals are taken away from their parents from a very young age which could then lead to long lasting trauma and anxiety. Since many of the owners of these breeders and puppy mills are motivated by the profit the animals make rather than the well being of those animals, most of them are unhealthy and sick or dying. They receive little to no veterinary care and are left to sit with the illness they have.
You can help lower the number of dogs and cats being sold by these corrupt breeders by buying from a reputable breeder, adopting from a shelter, encouraging your local pet store to promote shelter animals for adoption rather than animals that have been bred, and support the laws against puppy mills cruelty by reporting any kind of cruelty or mistreatment you know of or hear of. You can also help the animals that have been rescued from the puppy mills and breeders by donating pet supplies to your local shelter.
