One of the most overlooked cases of animal abuse comes from the food and meat industry. Certain animals like cows, pigs, and chickens are raised specifically for their meat, milk, and eggs.

They are living only to be killed for the pleasure of humans. The living conditions of these animals aren’t any better; they are kept in tight cages where there isn’t even enough room for them to turn around. They are also kept inside for most of the day and do not have any room to run around like all the other animals do. These kinds of farms are one of the biggest contributors to global warming due to the amount of carbon dioxide and methane released from the animals, and the animal waste is also a big contributor to water contamination.

Most of the workers inject the animals with antibiotics to make them grow faster and make them bigger, which affects the animals genetically and could have a long term effect on the animals and people who are eating the animal’s meat. Many workers have also suffered from trauma or major anxiety because of the mental toll of this job. If an animal cannot be used for food, the workers must kill them.
So this all comes down to the big question: How can we help? Well, for starters you could lessen your meat intake. If you wish, maybe try to incorporate “Meatless Mondays” in your family. Next, you could use your voice to speak up for the animals who cannot, sign petitions, write letters or emails, and protest. Many are upset about the conditions of these animals but do not want to stop eating meat, which is okay, but these animals should be able to live their lives to the fullest before being killed for food. They deserve to stay with their offspring or siblings and roam around in fields eating fresh green grass, not whatever antibiotic-filled food they are getting at these farms.
